*Curl Up*

A curl up looks similar to a crunch exercise on first glance, but as chest lifts we focus on keeping our pelvis in a neutral position avoiding tucking.

The movement is small and controlled. Think about your rib cage rolling up the mat with you.

The hands are clasped behind the head, the elbows are open, shoulders relaxed. Your head is supported when curling up, the neck is long and free from tension as the shoulders and chest lift. The middle of the back is left against the mat, keep your waist long on both sides.

Breathing to prepare . Breath out as you begin to curl up , hold the position and inhale , then exhale as you return to the start position.

Repeat up to ten times.

Over the next few days I am going to be sharing some of my favourite exercises for improving and enhancing spine and hip mobility.

*Spine Curl*

Such a lovely exercise, focusing on spine and hip mobility. You can use the mat/floor for feedback. As you peel your spine off the mat you gain awareness as to how your spine moves.

Begin the exercise lying on your back with your spine and pelvis in a neutral position. Soles of the feet on the mat, knees bent, feet and knees hip distance apart. Relax your arms down by your side, chest open, neck free from tension.

Begin with a posterior tilt of your pelvis and begin to wheel your spine off the mat one vertebra at a time , roll the spine up to the tips of the shoulder blades, lengthen the spine coming back to a neutral pelvis, hips level. Maintain a deep connection with your abdominal muscles throughout the exercise. as you return your spine back onto the mat. Begin by softening your breastbone and melt your spine back down onto the mat one vertebra at a time. return your pelvis onto the mat, spine and pelvis returning to a neutral.

Today is ‘National Peanut Butter Lovers Day’ what’s not to love ❤️😜. Anyone who knows me knows that I can’t live without it ( maybe a slight exaggeration) or rather I’d rather not live without it.

Whilst this is me having a bit of fun ..... balancing the peanut butter tub on my back 😜it demonstrates the Core Stability, the control of our ‘Power House,’ I talk about so much in class. As you progress on your Pilates journey these deeper connections will feel more natural and your awareness and understanding of your body will increase. This is why I ❤️ Pilates. Join me live on Zoom this week

In the video I am wearing my favourite leggings #Conturuk .... Smooth Move Leggings in Taupe . They fit like a second skin, high waisted, ultra flattering. They come in so many amazing colours it’s hard to choose just one pair, I tried and failed 😂. Click on my affiliate link & you’ll see what I mean ...
